Hi guys! So the other day I went to a small few acre lake in a park named Fischer Park. We did not know we where going to the pond until right before we where leaving. I remembered that this pond loaded with Sunfish, Catfish and Bass, so I quickly grabbed my pen rod and fly case and hopped in the car. When we got there, we all went over to the pond. I saw dozens of Bluegill and my sister spotted a huge Catfish right under the dock. I was casting with the flies, but received no hits on a dry fly Grass Hopper (a dry fly is like a top water for flies) which they normally love. I switched to a Nymph fly (a fly that sinks like a Nymph) but still no hits. While this was all going on, my grandma bought my sister her first real spinning rod and reel! We where both flipping flies, but still no luck. Some very nice people saw us fishing and noticed we had no live bait (which is what you need to catch fish in pond and rivers that have been fished a lot, because the fish get smart enough to not hit artificial lures, which is all I had cause’ we where in a rush) and came over and gave us some Night Crawlers. We tied on some pieces of bark about a foot above the flies for a cork, then moved spots, threw on about a fourth an inch of worm on the fly hooks (because they where the only hooks we had) and flipped out. I caught about ten Bluegill instantly and flipped back out. My piece of bark went under once more and I set the hook. Instantly I knew it was not a fish the way it was fighting, and sure enough, it was a baby Turtle! My mom helped me calmly put it in a paper bag and run up to the gift shop. Luckily they where having a day camp, and a few counselors grabbed some pliers and helped unhook it (which I attempted to do before, but he swallowed the hook, and I did not have pliers). The turtle was totally fine and the hook had no blood or flesh from the turtle, and it was not bleeding! Yay! I grabbed some gloves from a guy making hot dogs for the camp and took a picture with my new friend Timmy! I released him and he swam off great!
p.s. While I was on this adventure, I saw a large Craw Fish and it gave me an idea! If you want me to go out in a creek and catch a Craw Fish for my aquarium, leave a comment down below!
That is pretty much it for today so see you next time on Hudson’s Fishing Adventures! Bye!
