Fly Fishing 101

Hi, It’s me, Hudson! Today I’m going to talk about flies. I have a lot of hobbies, but fishing and making flies are my favorite! Fly fishing is such a blast, but one of the difficulties of fly fishing is you have to make sure there aren’t any trees by you or you will at least have to be extremely careful unless you want to get hung up! But the other difficulty is that a lot of times there’s fish under tree limbs close to the water (because the shade a tree gives). So my recommendation is to take your fly rod (if you have one) and instead of doing a full cast just flip it close to the tree limb. Something I also like to do in the same situation is grab the line about 3 inches ahead of the fly, swing your rod back (slowly so you don’t get hooked), and then swing your fly rod forward with about 2 feet of slack and let go of your line.  Getting this type of casting down can require patience and lots of practice, but it’s so fun and well worth it! If I were  you, I’d pick one of your least favorite flies and practice in your grass. Good luck and see you next time on hudsonsfishingadventures.com

See ya!
