Shrimp and Poppin’ corks

Hey guys! A few weeks ago, I went down to my grandads house for a day to go bay fishing. Normally down there we throw live Croakers on the bottom for Trout, Reds and Flounder. But this time we decided to do something different. We tied on popping corks to throw live shrimp. We also tied on a few artificial shrimp to throw. We got on the water early the next morning, and headed straight to a spot my grandad knew Trout were usually at. I started casting and jerking my cork to create a clapping sound with the brass and glass under the cork to attract fish. Almost instantly my cork went under! I set the hook, but missed him. We missed multiple after that, then realized they were small Trout and Pin Fish, so we moved. At the next spot we dropped my grandad off and let him wade with Croakers. We went over a few hundred yards in the boat and started fishing again. We started getting hit, and shortly after that, drifted in to the sweet spot! Every cast we got hammered! My dad showed me to reel down tell I felt the fish tugging before I set the hook, and that helped a lot! I caught a baby Skip jack, and two baby Trout! We then picked up my grandad, and he had one keeper Trout on his stringer. We threw him in the cooler and went over to the old Coast Guard Station. Check out my Sheep Head Galore blog for more info on the old Coast Guard Station! We started throwing dead shrimp under the corks, and got hit every time! I saw my cork go under, reeled tell I felt the fish on the other end of the line, and reeled him in! He was a small Skip Jack, but he fought like a Trout. I was kind of upset, but still eager to fish! I flipped back out, popped my cork, and my bobber vanished! I set the hook and it was obviously a Skip Jack. It started jumping out of the water like a Dolphin! I got him in and we threw him back. I took a few more casts, and finally caught another baby Speckled Trout. It was to small to keep so we tossed him back. We ran out of both Live and dead Shrimp, so our only hope was my grandad on Croakers from the boat, or my dad throwing artificial Shrimp. My dad was casting on a sandy bottom about fifty yards from the station, and got hammered! He set the hook and fish on! It was a Red Fish! He got it in, but it was to small to keep by a few inches, so we threw him back. My grandad shortly after had a fish on! It was a keeper Trout! He reeled it in and threw it in the ice box! Then we headed in. So if I were to tell you which method of salt water fishing is my favorite, I would say popping corks are way more fun, yet Croakers are better for keepers!
