Rainbow Trout Fishing Adventure

Rainbow Trout Fishing Guadalupe River

Hi guys! Yesterday I went on a guided fly fishing trip down the Guadalupe River, and man was it beautiful! The guide who took us was named Greg Smith.

I learned so freaking much about fly casting, good spots and a ton more! We started with about a forty five minute lesson on fly casting, pulling in a fish and setting the hook. I’ll admit I was eager at first to get past this part because I just wanted to fish, but man, later on I realized it was the most useful fly fishing info I have and will ever receive! We caught about eleven trout, and he let us catch ten of those eleven! He teaches you and guides you throughout the trip, but lets you catch all the fish! While it’s not cheap, it’s extremely worth every dollar. For one, he brings all the gear, lunch, his own float boat, bottled waters and it is roughly a five and a half our trip! More importantly, the experience and lesson learned will help all your future fly fishing trips be that much more fruitful! We caught only fish over twelve inches, and the largest one was nineteen inches. Greg is super friendly and is extremely nice. This trip might have been the best fishing trip/experience ever. The river is so pretty.

You go down about six and a half miles of flawless river. We had so much fun we have already booked him again, and are planning to a lot more! My dad caught the biggest fish, and I caught the most. My dad caught a Rainbow Trout that an Osprey had attempted to grab, but dropped and we saw the scars all over it! (If you don’t know about Osprey, you have to watch this video because it makes it that much cooler that we caught a fish that survived an Osprey attack!) We also saw a mom cow and its calf walk across the river! He said the best time to fish with him is around January and December. We did not know this at the time we booked it, but it was still well worth the money. I one hundred percent recommend Greg (Greg@RiverHillsOutfitters.net ) for a guide. We caught tons of Rainbow and Brown Trout, and I even caught a Sucker fish (he calls them Guadalupe Red Fish because they fight like crazy!) He was extremely informative and nice to spend the day with.

Go ahead and book him now! He gets filled pretty quickly, and he is only here for a few months a year! Click on the link in this blog to go to his website. My review is a ten out of ten! Checkout the pictures below, and tell me you don’t want in on some of that action! My dad and I will never forget this experience, thanks Greg!

p.s. Be sure to take some polarized glasses because it’s incredible how many fish you can see!
