Fly Fishing Guadalupe Kayak

Kayaking Down The Guadalupe Part 1

Hey guys! Today I will be sharing with you the craziest fishing adventure I have ever been on! We were on kayaks going down the Guadalupe River!

So a few months ago, my dad and I got fishing kayaks! We went fishing with them in Canyon Lake and Lake LBJ a few times! And that was really fun, but we decided to go bigger! We packed our fly rods and gear, some Zebco Dock Demons with Rooster Tails, and a cooler full of drinks. Last but not least we threw the kayaks in the back of my dads truck. Them, we grabbed some dry clothes and put them in a garbage bag. Because, we were going to kayak eight miles down the Guadalupe river! And who knows, we might fall in (which I did later.) We got to the boat ramp and put in.

We started fishing for Rainbow Trout with our Zebco rods and Rooster Tails right away. About twenty minutes into the trip, I caught and landed two eight inch long Rainbows, and my dad caught two Rainbows about a foot and a half long!

We figured that if we caught four Rainbows in the first twenty minutes, then we were gonna catch hundreds throughout the day, but boy were we wrong! We went down another four miles without a hit! Then we got out on the bank with waders on and waded the river for about thirty minutes, but still nothing!

Then we went down some rapids, and on some of the harder rapids, we would wade through them guiding our kayaks, or even just get out and carry them around the rapids. About another mile and still no fish! Our arms were exhausted and we were hungry so we stopped to eat lunch, which is where I “accidentally” spilled half my bag of chips to a duck.

When we finished eating, we got back in our kayaks. After saying goodbye to my new duck friend, we set off down the river. Right around the corner was the craziest rapids yet called Devil’s Play Ground! But we were too tired to get out, so we just kept going! We successfully made it down about half of the rapids. Then we got stuck and had to wade the rest of the way. After we were down those rapids, we realized we had a long way to go…
