Port O’Connor style

Hi fshin’ folks! The other day my family and I went down to visit my Grandad in Port O’ Connor, Texas. We went fishing early in the morning the next day, but did not do to good. My Grandad caught a Skip Jack, three Speckled Trout and one baby Sand Shark! All my dad caught was two Mullet in a cast net, and the only things I caught were some finger Mullet and Pin Fish in a cast net on the dock at the boat ramp. We through all the Mullet and Pin Fish in the live well for bait to use tomorrow. The next day my uncle went with us, and we went to the big jetties. We tried throwing Croaker, but did not catch any thing, then we trolled with Mullet, Pin Fish, Ribbon Fish and artificial jigs, but did not get a hit. We next tried fishing around a gas rig with more Croaker, but still did not even get one bite! We last tried the old Coats Guard Station (checkout my blog: Sheep Head Galore, for more info on the old Coast Guard station). I put on a chunk of cut up Mullet with a circle hook and two split shots. I got hit instantly, but the fish were to small to set the hook on. All of the sudden, I got hammered! I reared back, and was fighting the fish for a minute, but then it spit the hook out. It was most likely a keeper Red Fish. I was sort of upset, but at the same time was not going to waste time when I could be fishing about one little (actually very big) fish that got away. I cast back out and waited awhile. Meanwhile, my uncle caught a Flounder that was slightly to small to keep, and my dad caught a Crab on his bait! We had plenty of perfectly good store bought Crab at home, so we threw back the Flounder and the Crab. I got hit, jerked back and finally had a fish on! I was expecting a Hard Head, or a Sheep Head, but I caught a Oyster Robin! They are these weird, poisonous finned fish that blend in with Oyster reefs. We threw him back. And right after that I caught another one! We headed home, and when we got back the girls wanted to go fishing, so my mom, dad, Grandad, Aunt Ashley and Uncle John took the three of us fishing by the dock. My dad and Aunt Ashley both caught a Pin Fish on frozen shrimp on a small trouble hook with a split shot. I had on the same rig, and caught two Hard Head, a Pin Fish, a Sheep Head and a Red fish! I caught the most fish I had caught all trip under one small dock! My Aunt Ashley even caught a filleted dead Trout! Well that is it for today’s fishing adventure so Bye!

Oh yeah! P.S. While I was fishing right bye the big jetties, I threw over a bottle with a note in it, so if any of you find old glass bottle with a note in it right where Matagorda Bay’s big jetties and offshore meet, that will be pretty crazy! See you next time on Hudson’s Fishing Adventures! Bye!
